About Us

Birds Hill is a family owned and run nursing home, conveniently located next door to the Longfleet House Surgery and only a few doors away from Poole General Hospital.

The home was opened in 1992 and was designed following over 30 years’ experience in the NHS and 20 years owning and operating a number of traditional converted Nursing Homes in the area. It was decided that a Purpose Built home was required to help facilitate a better standard of care delivery.

The home is divided into three separate Nursing Units that run completely independently of each other. Merlin and Starling Units are devoted to the needs of those clients requiring general care in a pleasant and therapeutic environment.

Nightingale Unit is specially equipped and staffed to Cater for the older person with predominate memory and cognitive impairment conditions. The unit is specifically recognised and registered with the Care Quality Commission as an EMI (Elderly Mentally Infirm) Unit.

Birds Hill has the priceless attraction of panoramic views that span across Poole Harbour to the nature reserve of Brownsea Island, with several balconies on each floor, including our sensory garden. We also have a beautiful garden and pond with seating to enjoy the flowers.

Staff and Training

The Home employs approximately eighty five staff covering all job specifications within the structure of the Home; from Registered Manager to Gardener. Each employee is focal to the development and on-going smooth running of the Home.
